How to Pray when you are worried

Praying Scripture over Worry

Praying Scripture over Worry: Worry sneaks in quietly, often through the smallest cracks. A delayed text. A doctor’s appointment. Something seems “off” with our child. Before we know it, our minds are racing ahead into places God never asked us to go.

How to Pray when you are worried

Topic: Worry — When Your Thoughts Run Ahead of Truth

A woman shared with me that she had been waiting for an important email. Hours passed. Then a day. Then two. With each passing moment, her mind filled in the silence with worst‑case scenarios.

She thought:              “Maybe something’s wrong.”          –          “Maybe I messed up.” –          “Maybe they’re upset with me.”

Nothing had actually happened, but her thoughts were sprinting far ahead of reality.

Emotions

She felt tense, distracted, and unable to focus. Her stomach was tight. Her sleep was restless.
She kept checking her phone, hoping for relief, but the silence only made the worry louder.

Seek God’s Word

In the middle of her anxious spiral, she remembered a verse she had learned years before:

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3)

She paused, breathed deeply, and whispered the verse back to God.
Her circumstances didn’t change immediately — but her focus did.

Personal Application

If your thoughts have been running ahead of truth, pause today.  Let Scripture interrupt the spiral of worry.
Let God steady what feels shaky.

Journal

What worry has been taking up too much space in your mind? Describe the thoughts that keeps looping.

Praying Scripture over Worry

Allow God’s Word to speak truth over the worry that has overwhelmed your mind.  Allow Him to anchor your thoughts.

Pray Isaiah 26:3  (or choose another one on your own) back to the Lord.  Ask Him to help you give Him the worry.  Use your own words and speak directly to your Heavenly Father about your worries.

Reflection

Later in the week, take a few minutes to reflect on how God has moved in the situation or in your heart? How has He answered your prayer?

P.S.  If you found another verse to pray for this topic, please share it in the comments for others to consider for their Praying Scriptures Journal also.
