Praying Scripture over Hurt Feelings
Praying Scripture over Hurt Feelings: How often do we feel hurt by others? If you are like me, it happens a lot more often than I’d like. It may be an acquaintance, or a friend, a family member, even our spouse. Each of us is human and we definitely get our feelings hurt at times – often unintentionally by the other person.

Topic: Hurt Feelings – When a Small Comment Stings
Earlier this week, I heard from a woman who felt unexpectedly hurt. It happened during a simple conversation with a friend. They were chatting about the friend’s weekend plans that included another friend, but not her. The friend simply said, “Oh, I didn’t think you’d want to come. You’re always too busy.”
It wasn’t dramatic or loud – just one of those small comments that somehow landed right on a tender spot.
At that moment, she simply smiled politely, but on the inside, it hurt.
Emotions
Over the next few days, she tried to shake it off. The more she replayed it in her mind, the heavier it felt.
She wondered: Why would she assume that? – Do I seem uninterested? – Why am I being left out?
As often happens, that hurt started to grow roots. It turned into insecurity. Then it turned into self‑doubt.
Before long, she found herself carrying a weight of hurt that she never meant to pick up.
Seek God’s Word
But somewhere in the middle of all that swirling emotion, she paused. She remembered that God’s Word speaks into moments just like this—moments where our feelings get bruised and our thoughts start running ahead of truth.
She gave the hurt to the Lord and asked Him to begin to heal her hurt and help her through the feelings and emotions.
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” Psalm 34:18
This verse reminds us that God cares. He doesn’t dismiss our small hurts. He knows how to meet us right where it hurts.
Personal Application
If you’re carrying something similar today—something small but heavy—this is for you too. Instead of letting the hurt take over, you can practice Praying Scriptures.
Journal
Where did your feelings get bruised this week? What truth from Scripture can you pray back to the Lord?
Praying Scripture
Allow God’s Word to speak truth over the hurt and insecurity that has been speaking too loudly. God has gentle ways of anchoring you and guiding your heart back to peace.
Pray Psalm 34:18 (or choose another one on your own) back to the Lord. Pray the Scripture back to the Lord asking Him to help your hurt feelings heal. Use your own words and speak directly to your Heavenly Father about your hurt feelings.
Follow-Up Reflection
Later in the week, take a few minutes to reflect on how God has moved in the situation or in your heart? How has He answered your prayer?
As we continue with the Praying Scriptures series, you may find it beneficial to journal (or simply write out) your Praying Scriptures journey. It’s also good to have a record of how you have grown in your walk with the Lord.
You can read How to Use a Praying Scriptures Journal for simple guidelines. That post includes a link for a free Praying Scripture Journal page you can use.
